Career Expo at MHS 2013 In an effort to show students that vital, worthwhile and well-paying career opportunities exist here in their own community with existing employers, the Martinsville Chamber recently partnered with the Business department at Martinsville High School to host a Career Expo for the freshman career prep classes. While many of the graduating students will follow a college or university education path to a career, many others will not have those same opportunities. We feel that our students need to be aware that there are other means to pursuing a meaningful and fulfilling career. The Expo’s goal was to show that valuable career paths are also possible through on-the-job training, technical training and certificate programs, and alternate forms of continuing education. The Career Expo featured displays, handout materials and exhibitors telling their stories, while emphasizing the importance of graduating with high proficiencies in language arts, math and current technology. As students make curriculum choices throughout their high school career, we want them to be aware of opportunities available in Martinsville. The Chamber believes that, through hosting such events and providing this information to the younger students, the business community and school system will forge a valuable partnership to better address the needs of all of our students. Working together to prepare our young leaders for greater opportunities will improve the future for your business and our community. 43 photos |
