Free Tax Preparation Program Returns to Morgan County

Morgan County –  United Way of Central Indiana and the Internal Revenue Service are partnering again this year to bring the Indy Free Tax Prep/ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program back to Morgan County. VITA offers free tax preparation for those qualifying with a household income of $66,000 or less. The program will offer in-person tax filing services (by appointment only) at First Christian Church, located at 89 S Main Street in Martinsville, beginning February 4, 2019.

Taxpayers in Morgan County with a household income of $66,000 or less, may contact Karen or Rochelle at 317-210-0586 to schedule an appointment. Appointments will be taken over the phone for select Mondays from 10am-5pm starting February 4 through March18 at First Christian Church in Martinsville.

Volunteers from First Christian Church in Martinsville, along with other community volunteers, have completed their online certifications and training through the IRS, to become certified volunteer tax preparers. This program utilizes community volunteers and community partners to offer free tax preparation to qualifying taxpayers.

The purpose of the VITA program is to make tax preparation accessible and affordable to low-income families. Last tax season, VITA volunteers helped return more than $9 million in refunds to more than 7,500 people in the Central Indiana community.
