Thank you to Will and the Meyers Najem team for going above and beyond to get our downtown streets and sidewalks open well before the promised date of Small Business Saturday, November 29th! We also appreciate their efforts to keep one-way streets and lane closures to a minimum during the construction.

Here is the latest update, courtesy of Will:

  • Morgan, Main, and Jefferson Streets, and sidewalks, are now all open for public use.
  • 21 spaces on Morgan Street
  • 20 spaces on Main Street
  • 37 spaces on Jefferson Street
  • All 18 new light poles will be set at the end of the day today and lit up tomorrow.
  • Seed and straw have been placed at all landscape island areas. Irrigation and sod will be added to these areas next year.
  • Tomorrow, 11/14, we will move the fence back on Washington Street to behind the sidewalk
  • 14 parking spaces will be open for public use.
  • The middle of Washington Street will remain as our construction entrance for the duration of construction.
  • The middle section of sidewalk on Morgan Street will be left as compacted stone until decorative pavers are placed next year. Sidewalk will remain open for public use. MNC had new signage made to identify the surface change.

Thanks to everyone for your patience during construction. We hope the new parking and sidewalks will improve the safety and accessibility of downtown!

WORTH THE WALK CAMPAIGN

REMINDER: The Worth the Wak promotional campaign is winding down. We will do two more weekly drawings for $50 gift cards. All completed passports must be turned in to a participating business OR at the Main Connection, 460 S. Main St. by SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29TH. I will make one more round the week after Thanksgiving to pick up the remainder of passports at the participating businesses so that we can do our grand prize drawings for $500, $250, and $100. Stay tuned for the announcement of our lucky winners!

Thank you to all of our downtown businesses that really worked the campaign, helping all of their fellow businesses to be successful and to all of you for your support during this time. While construction will continue on the courthouse, we have our streets and sidewalks back in plenty of time for the holiday shopping season. Happy shopping!

Congratulations to Libby LaFary, Tammy Parker, Tammy Richert, Ryan Zumbahlen, Linda Cynova, Cindy Powell, Jim Schreiber, Douglas Butcher, Madelynn Dyer, Robert Kern, Janet Ransdell, Kimberly Pond, and Dana Selch, the winners of our weekly drawings as of Week 13 of our Worth the Walk campaign!

With every purchase made at a participating business, a ripple effect supports local jobs, strengthens the local economy, and helps sustain the character of the area. “Small businesses are the backbone of our community,” said Mayor Kenny Costin. “By choosing local, you’re not just making a purchase—you’re investing in your neighbors, your friends, and the heartbeat of your community.”

Residents and visitors can participate in the “Worth the Walk” campaign by simply visiting downtown shops and restaurants. Pick up a passport at a participating business and collect the stamps from five different businesses to be entered into the weekly and grand prize drawings. When you fill in one card, grab another and keep shopping! Submit all completed passports to a participating business on or before Small Business Saturday, November 29th, to be eligible for the grand prize drawing.

“This campaign encourages people to explore hidden gems, connect with our small business owners, and share their experiences using the hashtag #WorthTheWalk on social media,” said Jamie Taylor, president of the Martinsville Chamber.
