Did you know that there will be a total solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024? Central Indiana will be an area where there will be a longer duration of actual totality, so we expect to welcome many visitors the weekend prior and on the day of the eclipse. Planning ahead is critical and we know just the person to help us get started on the right foot!

Our guest speaker at our May 19th luncheon was Barrett S. Caldwell, Ph.D., FHFES, FIISE – Professor of Industrial Engineering and Aeronautics & Astronautics & Director, NASA Indiana Space Grant Consortium, Purdue University. We learned more about this amazing natural event and how we, as a community, might take advantage of this opportunity by hosting special events, marketing our businesses, and having fun. We also heard how we need to plan for the anticipated large influx of visitors.

Thanks to the Peddlers Loft Cafe for providing a great lunch and to Tosha Daugherty and Visit Morgan County for being our May Spotlight. Welcome to new members, Tim Surber – Good Neighbors Podcast of Martinsville, and to Sheila Alderson, Transnation Title.

Thank you to Professor Caldwell for an interesting and informative presentation. We loved this rocket scientist! 🙂

**SOLAR ECLIPSE 2024 – GET UP-TO-DATE LOCAL NOTIFICATIONS

Our friends at the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency have created a Solar Eclipse Notification Group. This allows them to send text messages relating to the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse (before, during, and after) to your cell phone. This way you can stay up to date with solar eclipse events and traffic before and after, as well as any other important information they may need to share.

To enroll for these notifications, text the phrase morgancoineclipse2024 to 69310.

Please note that messages will only be sent if pertinent and necessary and these notifications will stop being sent on April 9, 2024, once the solar eclipse event is over.
