The Art Sanctuary invites all ages to sign up for a free art adventure combining the excitement of the upcoming Solar Eclipse with the celestial fascination of well-known painter Vincent Van Gogh. Classes will take place at the Art Sanctuary on February 24th and are free of charge with supplies and teaching staff funded by a grant from the IU Center for Rural Engagement.

Classes on February 24th are as follows:

  • Grades 3 & 4, 9:30 – 11:00 am, students will be designing and printing multiple versions of mailable postcards with a celestial theme.
  • Grades 5 & 6, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, will be doing the same activity.
  • Toddler & Pre-K, 1:00 – 2:00 pm, will create a mixed media and pastel scene with buildings and a starry sky. An adult is required to attend this group.
  • Grades 1 & 2, 2:30 -3:30 pm, will be doing a similar activity as the Toddler group.
  • Grades 7 – 12, 4:00 – 5:30 pm, will be painting an acrylic version of their own Starry Night in the style of Van Gogh.
  • Adults, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, an acrylic painting of Starry Night is planned.

*IU student videographers will be at AS during the art classes filming for a student class project. Attendance at the class is taken as an agreement to be filmed.

**Artwork from these classes may be displayed during the March Gallery Show at the Art Sanctuary’s Eclipse Art Show, “Not So Starry Starry Night.”  Each entry must have a celestial theme. Turn-in will be Sunday, February 25, 2-5 pm, or by special arrangement.
