Dear Community Leaders,
A perk at the Community Foundation of Morgan County (CFMC) is being able to administer the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program (LECSP). These are by far the largest of all scholarships awarded locally.
LECSP awards full-tuition scholarships to students from each county in Indiana. We are lucky to award this scholarship to two Morgan County students. The application for this scholarship is currently open and will close Friday, August 26th. After the final applications are received, they are reviewed and evaluated by our scholarship committee. I am reaching out to you today to ask if you have any interest in joining the Community Foundation’s Lilly scholarship committee this year.
Depending on the number of committee members, each person would be asked to review and score 5-10 applications. (The more committee members we have, the less we will ask you to review.) The review process includes two short 250-word essays and a reference section. The other sections of the application are auto-scored and would not require any review. Each application takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and the process is done completely online. We would assign these applications to you in our online system and you can review them over the next three weeks. There are no onsite meetings or additional time commitments required for this committee and you are not obligated to serve multiple years.
We are reaching out to you today because you are someone that makes an impact in Morgan County. We think you would be an amazing asset to the committee. Please think it over and let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. We would like to have responses by end of the day August 9th, to begin sending out formal instructions for the evaluation process.
Once assigned, you will receive an email from Smarter Select notifying you of assigned evaluations. If you are a new evaluator, Ashley will be in touch to set you up and then assign evaluations to you. If you join the committee, we ask that your evaluations are completed by end of the day, Friday, September 17th.
Please note: If you are a parent or guardian of a high school senior applying for the LECSP, you will not be able to serve on the committee.
If you have additional time and would like to be on the interview committee, we are currently seeking 2 women to fill open positions. The interviews are Tuesday, October 11th and 12th beginning at 5 pm. CFMC provides dinner and provides an overview of the interview evaluation process at 4 pm. These positions are first come, first serve.
Some of the applications will melt your heart and inspire you! It is one of the most rewarding experiences I have gotten to be a part of in my time here at the foundation. I would love to give you examples, but all application data, interview feedback, and contact information are confidential unless on the committee. Thank you again for your consideration and commitment to Morgan County.
