HealthNet is, once again, pleased to partner with Churches in Mission to offer a free flu shot clinic.

Date:  Wednesday, October 20

Time:  12:00-4:00pm

Location:  Churches in Mission parking lot at 60 West Pike Street in Martinsville.

To minimize the potential for exposure to COVID-19, this is a drive-through event. Please ask people who might attend to wear a mask and remain in their cars.  If they do not have a mask one will be provided.

With the continued pandemic and the highly contagious Delta variant, it is particularly important this year to get a flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control recommends that anyone older than 6 months be vaccinated, especially children between 6 months and 5 years, adults 65 years and older, pregnant women, and anyone with existing medical conditions, such as asthma, lung, or heart disease or diabetes. Even though flu shots won’t prevent 100% cases of the flu, getting vaccinated can lessen the severity if one does become ill. It is a myth that the flu vaccine can cause a case of the flu – it does not.

Despite the many benefits offered by flu vaccination, only about half of Americans get an annual flu shot and flu continues to cause millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and tens of thousands of deaths. Many more people could be protected from flu if more people got vaccinated.
