On March 12th, the Greater Martinsville Chamber and the Martinsville Rotary Club hosted the 2024 State of the City. As in years past, the dinner was held at the Martinsville High School Cafeteria and featured brief presentations by the two host organizations. After Mayor Costin’s brief overview of some of the great things happening in our community, MC Jamin Baxter interviewed the mayor using the questions submitted by attendees.
We appreciated that Bryan Jackson, CLU, ChFC Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, once again provided the sound system and background music for the event and professional photos were available, courtesy of Mike Washington, MWPImage. Thanks to Luke Helmer, Helmsman Studios for commemorating the evening with his videography. The committee would also like to give a special shoutout to Michelle Keller, Brickhouse on Main, for raising the bar on our decor, and to Mr. Jay Marks and his Interact Club members who did a wonderful job of helping out in many ways before and during dinner.
Lisa James and Heavenly Helpings catered the delicious dinner and Sara’s Goodies provided an amazing variety of tasty desserts. Throughout the early part of the evening, attendees had an opportunity to bid on a variety of items during the silent auction.
President of the Martinsville Rotary Club Bethaney Latham gave an overview of the club’s community activities and upcoming events, followed by Martinsville Chamber board chair, Darcy Quakenbush, with an update on the Chamber’s initiatives and plans.
Darcy assisted Jamin in presenting and honoring the winners of the Outstanding Business (Duke Energy) Outstanding Business Professional (Rob Helms), and the coveted Ruth Rusie Spirit of Service (Dr. Tom Kapczynski) awards. Along with the Chamber’s annual award presentation, Darcy Quakenbush, board chair and Brian Haggard, incoming board chair presented appreciation awards to longtime board members Tracy Scott and Karen Dransfield. Tracy and Karen are both now retired from their jobs and have retired from the board as well.
