Indiana judges are eager to make the Courthouse a more inviting public space. Morgan County’s First Little Library has been generously stocked by donations of the Courthouse staff and Judge Dakota R. VanLeeuwen. It is located on the second floor of the Courthouse on Washington St. across from the elevator.
Judge VanLeeuwen credits weekly trips to the library throughout her childhood that inspired her to be an avid reader. “The Library has always given me a sense of comfort. I proudly support any initiative to bring that sense of joy a book can bring.”Take a book or leave a book, the Morgan County Little Library invites public enjoyment and a sense of community. “We specifically made sections for children, as many are taken to the courthouse for one reason or another. We want them to have something that makes Court a less intimidating environment.” Judge VanLeeuwen stated.
The Court of Appeals spearheaded the Little Free Courthouse Library initiative sparking counties to start their own. The court can have down time and a book can help fill that gap or provide an opportunity to a child to find the joy in reading.
