Due to the unprecedented pandemic that we have all been dealing with, the State of the City event that normally takes place in mid-March had to be reinvented. Like many organizations, the Martinsville Rotary Club and the Martinsville Chamber had to find the best way to create virtual events without losing the spirit of the celebration of all things Martinsville. The Martinsville Chamber awards presentation is an important part of the tradition, so we decided to have some fun with it and surprise the recipients. Outstanding Business Professional, Outstanding Business, and Ruth Rusie Spirit of Service Award recipients were notified with a Publishers Clearing House-like format.

The first of three awards presented by Chamber board chair, Darcy Quakenbush, and Jamin Baxter of Inside Morgan County, is our Outstanding Business of the Year award. This year, James Tanneberger and his wonderful team at South Central Indiana REMC got our vote. We are excited that they have been able to provide so many of our community with fiber through SCI Fiber. We have no doubt that having access to high-speed internet has had a positive impact on so many families, especially during this time of working from home and e-learning. Congratulations to all!

Our next stop was to announce this year’s winner of our Outstanding Business Professional Award. Please congratulate Dean Hudson of Hudson Plumbing! Check out the video to see Jamin Baxter of Inside Morgan County and Darcy Quakenbush, Martinsville Chamber board chair surprise Dean with this well-deserved award.

While our community is blessed with many dedicated volunteers, Rick Miller, pastor of Eastview Christian Church and founder of Stability First, is definitely at the top of that list. Jamin Baxter, Inside Morgan County, and Darcy Quakenbush, Martinsville Chamber board chair, had the pleasure of surprising Rick with his award. Congratulations to Rick on this well-deserved honor!

Thank you to Luke Helmer, Jamin Baxter, Inside Morgan County, and Home Bank for doing such a wonderful job with these videos and for making it possible to be creative with this important tradition!
