INDIANAPOLIS – Franciscan Health announces the appointment of Kariuki P. Murage, MD, FACS, as the Chief of Surgical Services. This newly created position underscores Franciscan Health’s commitment to advancing surgical care and enhancing patient outcomes in Central Indiana.

Dr. Murage is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He practices with Franciscan Physician Network Indy Southside Surgical and brings a wealth of expertise in minimally invasive surgery, robotics, trauma and acute care surgery. His strong leadership skills and proven track record are evident from his previous roles as chairman of the surgery department and chairman of the clinical operations group.
In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Dr. Murage serves as a Physician Advisor for Health Trust and has contributed articles to Becker’s Health. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and currently serves as the vice president of the Franciscan medical staff.
Dr. Murage’s academic contributions include his role as an Associate Clinical Professor at the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine where he also completed his general surgery residency. He also spent a year as an administrative/quality intern at IU Health. Dr. Murage graduated Magna Cum Laude and is a Phi Beta Kappa member from Wabash College.
