Morgan County Coalition for Literacy
In 2006, former Morgan County educators – Ruth Rusie, Dr. Patti Siemantel, and Dr. Becky Strange – met to discuss whether separate literacy efforts in Martinsville and Mooresville could be combined into one, formally organized, volunteer organization.
The formation of the Morgan County Coalition for Literacy (MCCL) has effectively widened the scope of literacy efforts in the county. Volunteer tutors now have access to more materials. They share ideas and training with more people. Dozens of students throughout the county can receive instruction.
MCCL also has formed partnerships with groups as diverse as Churches in Mission, Stability First, the Central Indiana United Way Read Up! Program and the Ivy Tech Mooresville Education Center to help more people and promote a culture of literacy in Morgan County.
