Michelle (Burkes) Higgs, Candidate for State Representative House District 60
Biography
Hi! My name is Michelle (Burkes) Higgs, and I’m running for State Representative for Indiana House District 60. I’m a small business owner, community leader, wife, mom of three, and a Martinsville High School alumna (go Artesians!). Many may remember my dad, Larry Burkes, when he managed the popular Swifty gas station that once was on Main St. or my mom, Carol Burkes, who delivered meals for CICOA throughout Morgan County.
I’m running to represent the people of House District 60 (which includes parts of Morgan, Monroe, and Johnson counties) because I know that when more of us can shape the decisions that impact our lives–whether at the Statehouse or in our workplace–we all do better. I’m running because, over the past six years, I’ve advocated for important issues like mental health and healthcare access; safe, affordable housing; and a stop to corporate profiteering with others who…
- look different than me,
- worship differently than me,
- grew up differently than me, and even
- voted differently than me, and
I discovered that we have far more in common, and we need each other to thrive.
A government of the people means working with the people. I firmly believe public policy must be rooted in relationships. And that starts with a conversation. I’d love to talk with you! To learn more about my campaign, please visit https://voteformichellehiggs.com.
