Congratulations to everyone’s favorite, Ruth L. Rusie. Adding to her many honors, Ruth was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest citizen award, by the Governor’s office. Senator Rod Bray and Representative Peggy Mayfield presented the honor together, as a room full of Ruth’s admirers looked on. Scroll down to watch the video of the award presentation.
The Sunday afternoon event was planned in order for Ruth’s many admirers from our county and the region to express their heartfelt thanks for all that Ruth has done for various causes and organizations over the years. Ruth recently moved from Martinsville to a retirement community in Bloomington, but has made it very clear that her heart is still here in Morgan County and that she wants to stay in touch.
Another highlight of the afternoon was the reading of a special proclamation by Mayor Shannon Kohl. Some of Ruth’s many accomplishments and contributions were mentioned and Sunday, April 24th was proclaimed “Ruth Rusie Day” in Martinsville.
Kudos to the wonderful committee that put this event together: Lisa Arnold, Danie Becknell, Judy Bucci, Lynette Liberge & Diana Roy! The centerpieces were crafted by Jeannie Tedrow and Kevin Lollar arranged for the limo to bring Ruth from her Bloomington home, like the real celebrity that she is! A special thank you to Emily Metheny for making sure that many special moments from the afternoon were captured by her camera. Be sure to keep an eye out for her excellent photos (including those of Ruth’s arrival in the limo) on the Community Foundation of Morgan County’s FB page.
Our snapshots, taken later in the event, can be found here.
